Menlo Park, California — Today, Intel announced that they have acquired Replay Technologies, whose interactive “freeD technology” is changing the way people watch and interact with video. Named one of the world’s top 10 most innovative companies in sports, Replay’s technology was recently showcased during Super Bowl 50 and the NBA All Star game. Cervin Ventures, co-founded by Preetish Nijhawan and Neeraj Gupta, was Replay’s first investor. Nijhawan, who also co-founded Akamai Technologies, a pioneer in internet video technology, and Gupta saw Replay’s potential immediately after the company demonstrated their technology for Cervin in late 2011.
“Cervin believes that the future of video is augmented reality, where viewers are able to step inside of what they are watching and experience it firsthand. And no one is making this kind of experience possible to viewers quite like Replay,” said Cervin Ventures Managing Director, Preetish Nijhawan. “From its debut at the London Olympics to Super Bowl 50, the Replay team has created powerful technology and we are very excited about the new partnership with Intel.”
“Cervin Ventures has played a pivotal role in the success of our company,” said Replay CEO, Oren Yogev. “Five years ago, the Cervin team took a chance on a small video company that had a vision to change the way viewers experience and watch sports. The entire Replay team is grateful for all of Cervin’s support. We wouldn’t be where we are without them.”
Cervin has made over 20 investments across its two institutional funds, of which five companies, including Replay Technologies have exited. Cervin believes in investing early with exceptional founding teams across the enterprise technology space, staying deeply involved, and becoming true partners with their portfolio companies. Cervin will continue to invest in Israeli entrepreneurs that are looking for a highly engaged Silicon Valley investor to partner with.
